After a dominant performance at the Hangzhou Asian Games, South Korea’s Sun Hong-ho Hwang breezed through the tournament rounds and will now face host China in the quarterfinals.
According to the Hangzhou Asian Games round of 16 bracket released on Saturday, South Korea will face Kyrgyzstan in the round of 16 tomorrow, Nov. 27, in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, China.
On the same day and at the same time as South Korea’s round of 16 match, China will play Qatar in the round of 16. The winners of the two matches will meet in the quarterfinals on March 1.
South Korea has shown itself to be a strong contender in the tournament, scoring 16 goals and keeping no clean sheets in its three group games. Barring a major upset, Kyrgyzstan should be easy pickings.
China is also ahead of Qatar on objective strength. China finished first in their group with two wins and a draw. Qatar barely made it to the round of 16 in the three-team Group D with one win, one draw, and third place in the group.레고토토
Their quarterfinal opponent, host nation China, is a daunting prospect. Especially since there will be no video assistant referee (VAR) at the tournament, there are concerns about potentially biased calls.
The Korean national team played an away trial in China in June. Korea won the first game 3-1, but lost the second game 0-1.
If South Korea makes it to the quarterfinals, they will face the team coming out of the Uzbekistan-Indonesia and Saudi Arabia-India bracket boxes in the semifinals. On the other side of the bracket, Iran-Thailand, Hong Kong-Palestine, Japan-Myanmar, and North Korea-Bahrain will play in the Round of 16.
