Newcastle United are set to re-sign midfield core Bruno Guimarães.
Transfer market pundit Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news on his social media accounts on Monday (September 29), writing: “The official paperwork will be completed in the next few days. Bruno will now sign a new contract until June 2028. The buyout will be 100 million pounds ($165.2 million).”
Guimarães is a Brazilian midfielder born in 1997. He left Brazil in 2020 to join Olympique Lyonnais, where he broke into the European scene. He quickly established himself at Lyon at a young age, playing the role of a rear playmaker who orchestrates the attack from the back three. He didn’t play much in his first season.
But in 2020-21, he made the leap to the first team in 33 French league games. In 2021-22, he played 20 games in the first half of the season. Along the way, he began to receive regular calls up to the Brazilian national team. He made his debut in November 2020 and has now played 14 A matches. He also got a taste of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Newcastle have expressed interest. Newcastle has been investing heavily in the club since Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund (PIF) bought the club. Guimarães was part of that project. Alexander Isaacs and Sven Boatman were among the players brought in.바카라사이트
Newcastle has spent a whopping €286 million over the last three transfer windows. The results are clear. Last season, they finished fourth in the Premier League (PL) and qualified for the UEFA Champions League (UCL) for the first time in 21 years. Just two years after PIF’s acquisition, they’ve qualified for their dream stage.
At the center of it all is the Guimarães. Shortly after joining Newcastle in the second half of the 2021-22 season, he made 17 PL appearances. Last season, he scored four goals and provided five assists in 32 league games. This season, he has started all six games since the start.
The player has been linked with several clubs, but Newcastle have maintained their no-sale stance. They have now signed a new contract. His original deal was set to end in the summer of 2026, but he has added two more years to it, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2028.
