Kiwoom Heroes Young Gun Jang Jae-young (21) achieved his first career quality start (six or more innings pitched and three or fewer earned runs allowed) against the LG Twins, who lead the league in batting average.
Jang started the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League game against LG at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Nov. 11, allowing three runs on four hits (one home run) with one walk and three strikeouts in six innings. He left the mound with the game tied 3-3 and did not get the win.
It was the first quality start for Jang, who made his professional debut in 2021.
Prior to this game, Jang’s best performance was a 5⅓-inning no-hitter against the NC Dinos last month, but against the powerhouse LG, he recorded the most innings in a game and his first career quality start.
Jang Jae-young was highly anticipated from the time he joined the team, receiving 900 million won in contract money alone. However, despite having a fastball that exceeds 150 kilometers, he was always hampered by his pitches, which led to severe ups and downs. It was the biggest reason why he could not settle in the first team.
But this day was different. He held the LG bats scoreless until the fourth inning with only one hit. He worked out of jams in the first and third innings.
In the fifth inning, he was shaken after giving up a leadoff solo home run to Moon Bo-kyung, and gave up three runs, but Kiwoom’s bats responded with three runs of their own, easing Jang’s shoulders.메이저놀이터
Jang took the mound again in the sixth inning, retiring the next three batters to complete the job. Despite not getting the win, it was still a meaningful game for Jang.
