Atlanta’s Matt Olson sets franchise record with 52nd home run of season

Atlanta Braves slugger Matt Olson, 29, of Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves, has set a new franchise record for most home runs.

Olson lifted a 93 mph fastball from Miami second baseman Steven Aukert over the center field fence. 52 home runs this season. With it, Olson broke the Atlanta franchise record of 51 homers set by Andrew Jones in 2005, an 18-year mark. Olson, who leads the National League in home runs, also increased his RBI total to 129 on the day, putting him on pace to lead the league in that category.

Atlanta, which clinched first place in the National League East, also got a two-run homer from Ozzie Albies in the first inning, giving him 30 homers on the season. Atlanta now has five players with 30 or more home runs in Olson, Albies, Ronald Acuña Jr. (37), Austin Riley (36), and Marcell Osuna (34). It’s the first time Atlanta has had five hitters hit 30 or more home runs in a season since the Minnesota Twins in 2019. Atlanta fell to 5-11 on the day.
