LG’s unrelenting rain, KIA’s lucky rain… LG took an 8-0 lead in the 2nd inning → No game declared.

Lucky rain for the KIA Tigers, unforgiving rain for the LG Twins.

The 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League matchup between KIA and LG at Kia Champions Field in Gwangju on Aug. 8 was declared a rainout.

KIA’s lineup was Choi Won-jun (first base), Park Chan-ho (shortstop), Kim Do-young (third base), Na Sung-beom (right field), Choi Hyung-woo (designated hitter), Socrates Brito (center field), Lee Woo-sung (left field), Kim Tae-gun (catcher), and Kim Kyu-sung (second base). Yang Hyun-jong is the starting pitcher.

Adam Plutko started the game and LG’s lineup consisted of Hong Chang-ki (right fielder), Moon Sung-joo (left fielder), Kim Hyun-soo (designated hitter), Austin Dean (first baseman), Oh Ji-hwan (shortstop), Moon Bo-kyung (third baseman), Park Dong-won (catcher), Park Hae-min (center fielder), and Shin Min-jae (second baseman).

LG took advantage of Yang Hyun-jong in the first inning. Hong Chang-ki singled, Moon Sung-joo walked to put runners on first and second, and Kim Hyun-soo followed with an RBI single. Austin followed with an RBI single. A failed bunt by Oh Ji-hwan put runners on first and second with Kim Hyun-soo out at third, but Moon Bo-kyung’s RBI single, Park Dong-won’s sacrifice fly and Park Hae-min’s RBI single scored five runs.

LG’s bats continued to harass Yang Hyun-jong in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Hong Chang-ki reached on a throwing error by first baseman Choi Won-jun and stole second. Moon Sung-ju and Kim Hyun-soo followed with back-to-back RBI singles. After Austin grounded out to second base, Oh scored on a single by Oh Ji-hwan. The score was 8-0 after two innings.메이저놀이터

However, at the start of Kia’s second inning offense, the rain suddenly started pouring down. The raindrops grew thicker and thicker. Eventually, a rain delay was called at 7:14 p.m. with the bases loaded. After waiting for almost an hour, the rain didn’t stop. Finally, at 8:08 p.m., a no-game was declared.

The rain was a blessing in disguise for LG and a curse for KIA. Yang Hyun-jong was shaken up after allowing eight runs (six earned) on nine hits and one walk in two innings, but he was able to breathe a sigh of relief when the no-game was called. LG swung the bats early in the game, but had to leave the field disappointed. Plutko, making his second start in two weeks after recovering from COVID-19, pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and striking out one.
