Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, 27, who was pushed out of the center back position by the arrival of Kim Min-jae, has asked the club for a transfer, according to Germany’s Bild on Friday (Aug. 5).
“Pavard is keen to leave Bayern Munich before the transfer window closes this summer,” Bild explained.
Fabregas is out of contract at Bayern Munich at the end of the season. The Bavarians offered him a contract extension during last season, but he did not accept it.
Favre has played right back for the past four seasons. He has also played center back when the traditional center backs were unavailable due to injury. That’s why Tuchel is so keen to re-sign him.
According to Bild, Pavard’s decision to part ways with Bayern Munich was due to his desire to play center back. Pavard expressed his desire for a new challenge at center back late last year.
Despite Pavard’s wishes, it’s difficult for him to play center back at Bayern Munich. Luca Hernandez, the first-choice center back, left for Paris Saint-Germain, but Kim Min-jae joined him. Matthias Dürricht and Kim Min-jae are sure to start, with Dayot Upamecano as a backup.
Pavard is looking for a club where he can play consistently at center back and has been linked with Manchester City, Manchester United, and Juventus. The three clubs have been linked with Pavard in recent days, but no official transfer offers have been made. Bayern Munich have reportedly set a minimum price tag of €30 million for Pavard.
“Bayern Munich cannot afford to let Favre go without a transfer fee, so they are waiting for an offer to come in before the end of the summer transfer window,” said Bild. “However, Tuchel and Bayern Munich officials still hope that Favre will change his mind and sign a new contract with Bayern Munich.”
