Jose Altuve (Houston Astros) recorded his first hit for the cycle in 1,640 games in the big leagues.
Altuve started at first base and went 4-for-6 with a home run and four RBIs in the leadoff spot against the visiting Boston Red Sox of the 2023 Major League Baseball World Series at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, on Monday.
His four hits included a single, a double, a triple, and a home run to complete the hit-for-the-cycle.
Altuve struck out in his first at-bat, but in the third inning, he took a Chris Sale slider for a two-run double to right field.
After singling to left in the fifth, Altuve continued his hitting streak in the sixth with a three-run blast over the “Green Monster” in left-center field at Fenway Park.
Altuve grounded out to first base in the seventh, but with one out in the eighth, he added the final piece to his hit-for-the-cycle when he lined a 146-mph fastball from Kyle Burrachloff over the left-center field wall for a two-run arch. It traveled 128 meters with a 33-degree launch angle and cleared the 11.3-meter-high Green Monster.
“When I came up to bat in the eighth inning, I knew that a home run was all that was left in the Hit for the Cycle, but I didn’t want to do anything different,” Altuve told the Associated Press after the game. “I just wanted to hit the ball right, and it turned out to be a home run.”메이저놀이터
Altuve is one of five players in the major leagues to accomplish the feat this year.
It’s the first time in 10 years that a Houston hitter has hit for the cycle since Brandon Barnes in 2013.
