The $185 million ace is gone…
Korean-American big leaguer Dae-in Dunning, 29, of the Texas Rangers, has been mentioned in the U.S. media lately. He was recently named by CBS Sports as one of the better-than-expected players in the American League West this season. He has filled the void left by Jacob deGrom’s injury and season-long absence.
In 29 games this season, Dunning is 9-6 with a 3.45 ERA. In 21 starts, he’s 7-6 with a 3.24 ERA. He doesn’t have the fastest fastball, nor does he have pinpoint command. His biggest strength is mixing up his pitches, being aggressive, and not giving up runs. He gets hit, but he gets more good results.
It’s hard to find a pitcher on any team who can do what DeGrom can do. Dunning, however, is a pitcher who is calculated in his own way. Texas hasn’t expended any more energy than necessary this season trying to fill the DeGrom void.
As a result, Texas is in the thick of the American League West race. They are in third place with a 75-58 record, but just one game behind the first-place Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros. They are third in the wild card race, 2.5 games ahead of the fourth-place Toronto Blue Jays.
With 140⅔ innings pitched, he has the most innings on the team this season and is one of only two pitchers to have pitched in regulation. His wins are also second on the team behind ace Nathan Iovaldi (11). Although he’s been a substitute starter, he’s effectively been a second or third starter.
In six August starts, Gruen went 1-2 with a 4.01 ERA. That’s not a bad record, but the ERA is a bit high. In July, he went 1-3 with a 5.06 ERA in five games. Runs are runs, but the win clock has slowed down in the last two months, with just two more wins in 11 games.
They haven’t won five games in a row since March 3 against the Chicago White Sox. They didn’t move from nine to 10 wins in five straight games. Didn’t get the win against the New York Mets on May 31, allowing three runs on five hits (two home runs) in four innings with four strikeouts and two walks. Threw 74 pitches through four innings, not a lot, but was pulled to start the fifth. The no-decision.메이저사이트
According to CBS Sports, it wasn’t a major injury, and they pointed out that his K/BB ratio had gotten worse in his last three games. A long season is not without its bumps and bruises. There’s still a month left in the regular season, and if Dunning comes out strong in September, he could lead Texas to the postseason. He’ll also be looking for his first 10-win season with a 5-6 record. With 20 career wins, Dunning has yet to win 10 games in a season.
